Washington D.C. – House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) issued the following statement regarding his appointments to the Joint Economic Committee:
“The Joint Economic Committee is a bicameral Congressional Committee tasked with reviewing, improving, and advising on one of our country’s most vital assets: the U.S. economy.
“Under recent Republican leadership, the U.S. economy and American worker has experienced positive and even record-breaking advancements from rising wages to low unemployment – especially for minority communities.
“There is more work to do. Technological advancements have boosted productivity and market growth for many American businesses, and the results have largely resulted in better experiences for the American consumer. But the American worker has had a tougher time keeping pace – millions of jobs are left unfilled due to the skills gap.
“A robust U.S. economy is one that benefits all Americans, and this Committee faces the challenge of accomplishing just that through its counsel on new skills education, competition, and small business creation, just to name a few. The Republican members joining the JEC will work day in and day out for the American worker and restore full confidence in the U.S. economy, not just nationwide, but globally.
“I am proud to appoint the following members to the Joint Economic Committee:
Rep. David Schweikert (AZ-06)
David has been a consistent advocate for efficiencies in the U.S. economy throughout his congressional career, and has several legislative accomplishments to show for it. He understands the important overlap between technology and a growing economy — particularly through blockchain technology and decentralization — and will bring a unique perspective to the Committee.
Rep. Darin LaHood (IL-18)
Darin has consistently made creating jobs for the people of Illinois a top priority, and I know he will do the same for the rest of the country on the JEC. His time on the House Ways and Means Committee also provides him with the experience and expertise to advise on the intersections of tax, trade, and regulatory policy.
Rep. Kenny Marchant (TX-24)
Kenny was a small business owner at a young age, so he understands firsthand the value small businesses bring to a growing economy. For over a decade, Kenny has advocated for lowering taxes, eliminating wasteful government spending, and combating unnecessary regulations — key experiences and ideals this Committee needs to keep the American economy growing.
Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler (WA-03)
Jaime is leading American workers into the 21st Century with vision and strategy. Most recently, Jaime reintroduced the bipartisan Championing Apprenticeships for New Careers and Employees in Technology (CHANCE in Tech) Act, which aims to create training programs in STEM fields to address a growing skills gap that is leaving middle class Americans behind while American technology companies charge forward. With this foresight, along with her history of supporting small businesses that create jobs in southwest Washington, Jaime will bring a unique and experiential perspective to the Joint Economic Committee.”
