Congressman David Schweikert Introduces Legislation To End The Public Health Emergency Declaration Upon FDA Therapeutic Drug Approvals

Washington, D.C  Today, Congressman David Schweikert (AZ-06) introduced The Pandemic Cessation Act, legislation that provides closure to nearly two years of fighting the COVID-19 virus.

“We are on the verge of adding multiple medical breakthroughs to our COVID-19 toolbox to defeat this pandemic once and for all. The FDA is scheduled to review the final approval of antiviral drugs that I believe should mark the end of the Public Health Emergency Declaration. The restrictions that have tied the country down for nearly two years must come to a close, and my Pandemic Cessation Act will do exactly that. It’s time to clearly mark the return to normal life,” said Rep. Schweikert.

Background:
The Pandemic Cessation Act would consider the current, and any renewal of, the Public Health Emergency (PHE) terminated upon the Food and Drug Administration’s approval or emergency use authorization of a new drug indicated to treat COVID-19.
