Scottsdale, Ariz., November 24, 2014—Rep. David Schweikert (R-AZ), co-chair of the Congressional Tunisian Caucus, released a statement following the first round of the Tunisian presidential election:

“I congratulate the Tunisian people on a successful first round of their Presidential election,” said Co-Chair Schweikert. “With millions going to the polls to vote, Tunisia has shown a commitment to a peaceful democratic transition that has been an inspiration throughout the region.”

I am confident the Tunisian people will continue to build upon the success of the last several months as their democratic aspirations are realized.”

Congressman David Schweikert co-founded the Congressional Tunisian Caucus in the summer of 2013 alongside Congressman Alcee L. Hastings. Since its inception, the caucus has worked to inform policy makers of the democratic transition in Tunisia, while strengthening bilateral relations between the United States and Tunisia.
