Schweikert Encourages Arizonans to Check Eligibility for Stimulus Payments

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman David Schweikert (AZ-06) released the following statement encouraging Arizonans who do not typically file a tax return to meet the fast approaching Economic Impact Payment registration deadline.

“The October 15th deadline for Arizonans to register to receive their stimulus check is quickly approaching. Over 239,000 non-filers in the state are still eligible for a payment but have not yet used the non-filer tool to register. I urge all Arizonans to check with the IRS as soon as possible on their current situation in order to register in time. These payments are crucial for many hard-working Americans amid the ongoing pandemic.”

Background:

The deadline to register for the Economic Impact Payment is October 15th. If you are someone who does not normally file taxes, and are missing a stimulus check, you can check the IRS website for further information on next steps. Granted impact payments include:

  • Individuals: up to $1,200
  • Married couples: up to $2,400
  • Per each qualifying child (under 17): $500

The non-filers tool is a quick and easy tool that will allow you to register. An individual is likely eligible for an Economic Impact Payment if they:

  • are a U.S. citizen or resident alien;
  • have a work-eligible Social Security number; and
  • can’t be claimed as a dependent on someone else’s federal income tax return.

Arizonans who typically do not file taxes but may be eligible for an Economic Impact Payment can check their status and register for a payment before October 15, 2020 by clicking HERE.

Eligible individuals may receive a notice in the mail from the IRS encouraging them to use the non-filers tool to register for their payment. For more information from the IRS, visit their Economic Impact Payment FAQ website HERE.
