Rep. David Schweikert joined Rep. Eli Crane and Arizona leaders in pressing FEMA to reverse its denial of a major disaster declaration after severe storms and catastrophic flooding hit Gila and Mohave counties in late September 2025.
Updated damage assessments now estimate losses above $100 million, up from an initial $33.6 million, with costs tied to public infrastructure, debris removal and emergency response. The members urged FEMA to move quickly, provide Public Assistance for Gila and Mohave counties, and approve Hazard Mitigation support statewide to reduce future risk.
Schweikert also backed the request for senior FEMA officials to visit Gila County and hear directly from local officials and residents before a final decision is made.
