Congressman David Schweikert Named Senior House Republican on Joint Economic Committee

WASHINGTON, DCToday Senator Mike Lee, Chairman of the Joint Economic Committee (JEC), announced Congressman David Schweikert to lead House Republicans on JEC. Following the appointment, Congressman Schweikert released the following statement.

“I am honored and thankful for this opportunity to serve alongside my colleagues on JEC in the 116th Congress. I look forward to working with the leadership team and members to advance committee responsibilities, economic prosperity, and innovative policy to ensure we continue to grow our economy.”

Congressman Schweikert has served on the Committee for two terms and will start his third term serving as Senior House Republican.

Background:

The Joint Economic Committee (JEC) was created when Congress passed the Employment Act of 1946. Under this Act, Congress established two advisory panels: the President’s Council of Economic Advisers (CEA) and the Joint Economic Committee. Their primary tasks are to review economic conditions and to recommend improvements in economic policy.
