WASHINGTON, DC – This week, Congressman David Schweikert (AZ-06) hosted the first annual Women’s Leadership Summit, an event to bring Arizona women together to develop their careers and to learn directly from powerful female leaders who influence innovation in Arizona. Attendees were divided into career-focused breakout sessions where they discussed technology innovation in healthcare, STEM, and public policy.
“It was a pleasure to host the first annual Women’s Leadership Summit and promote the importance of technology at my alma mater, Arizona State University. Currently, in the United States women only hold 24 percent of STEM jobs, and this stark discrepancy is what gave me the idea for this conference. Furthermore, in our economy there are 2.4 million unfilled positions in the STEM field. I was pleased to see this conference bring Arizona women together for a discussion around how we can work to mitigate this gap and help other women enter technology-focused careers. I look forward to seeing how this summit will empower women in the technology industry and plan to host this event again in the future.”
