Arizona Women’s Leadership Summit

Congressman David Schweikert hosted the First Annual Women in Leadership Summit Tech Talk, an event that brought Arizona women together for a day of professional development workshops and networking.  This event fostered discussion around female empowerment in the workplace and brought together powerful female leaders who influence innovation in Arizona.

This event aimed to inspire leadership, highlight powerful female leaders who influence innovation in Arizona, celebrate their accomplishments, and provide a networking opportunity for attendees. Participants had the chance to meet other liked minded individuals, attend career focused breakout sessions that include Healthcare, STEM, and Public Policy. Closing out, a panel featuring five influential Arizona women that are leading experts in their career field spoke to attendees.

Ms. Shannon Penberthy is the Vice President of Federal Government Affairs at CVS Health. She has a 25-year record of meeting advocacy goals through proactive, realistic strategies that leverage client vision, expertise, and perspective in the external environments. This helps Ms. Penberthy shape outcomes, build shareholder return, strengthen relationships, and advance reputation.

Dr. Nadya Bliss, ASU Executive Director, Global Security Initiative

Dr. Nadya T. Bliss is the Executive Director of the Global Security Initiative at Arizona State University. In her role, she leads a pan-university institute-level organization advancing research, education, and other programming in support of national security and global security. The GSI at ASU serves as the University’s main contact to the Department of Defense, Intelligence Community, and the Department of Homeland Security.

Ms. Jessica Gabry is a program manager for the Starbucks Technology Center. Ms. Gabry is leading the effort to improve the company’s onboarding process for new partners. Ms. Gabry has a passion for educating the community on innovative philanthropic opportunities and connecting the business world with nonprofits.

Ms. Tamara Deuser, ASU Associate Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Knowledge Enterprise Development

Ms. Tamara Deuser is the Associate Vice President and Chief Operations Officer at Arizona State University and oversees the operations functions of the ASU Knowledge Enterprise. The Office of Knowledge Enterprise Development at ASU is responsible for advising research and innovation. Ms. Deuser specifically focuses on organizational redesign, process improvement, and novel approaches to ensure service to ASU faculty and researchers is the best.

Dr. Kristin Swanson, Professor and Vice Chair, Neurological Surgery, Mayo Clinic

Dr. Kristin Swanson is a mathematical oncologist at the Mayo Clinic. Dr. Swanson has research interests in clinical trial design and mathematical modeling for treating patients with brain cancer. Dr. Swanson’s lab generates patient-specific predictive models to effectively and accurately predict tumor growth and response to therapy in patients. Dr. Swanson’s research is significant to patient care as it can be used to inform novel therapy design, which results in better treatment and outcomes for patients.
