WASHINTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman David Schweikert (AZ-06) introduced H.R. 765 a resolution that rejects any proposal or legislation to financially compensate individuals crossing our border illegally.
In the last year, U.S. Customs and Border Protection have apprehended 1.66 million migrants at the United States southern border – the highest number of apprehensions ever recorded to date. This mass migration has completely overwhelmed our law enforcement officials at the border and has been cause for a growing humanitarian crisis that the Biden administration seems to be doing little about.
“Proposals or legislation regarding immigration policy are not one-dimensional. This proposal by the Biden administration, to financially compensate illegal immigration, negatively affects Americans and migrants alike. Border states like Arizona are the ones hit hardest by the influx of illegal border crossings,” said Rep. Schweikert. “Issuing pay-outs to those who previously entered our country illegally will incentivize even more to come. There is a crisis on our Southern border, and this resolution will voice to the Biden administration that the House of Representatives is against incentivizing illegal immigration. At a time when the cost of basic goods are rising across the country due to high inflation, American taxpayers should not bare the additional cost of pay-outs to those who have broken our immigration laws.”
This Resolution is co-sponsored by Rep. Louie Gohmert (TX-01).
