Washington, D.C. – Congressman David Schweikert (R-AZ) released the following statement Thursday on the 2nd birthday of the failed stimulus:
“With over 2.5 million jobs lost and a final price tag of over $1 trillion charged to the American people, it is safe to say the stimulus was a colossal failure.
“Two years after the stimulus was passed, the national debt has increased to more than $14 trillion. The president promised this stimulus would save or create 3.5 million jobs and ‘unemployment would remain under 8 percent.’ It still remains above a heartbreaking 9 percent.
“On this second birthday of the so-called stimulus, we still find ourselves asking ‘where are the jobs? It is clear the Obama Administration has failed to reason that borrowing and spending our way to prosperity just doesn’t work.
“House Republicans will honor our pledge this week by cutting more than $100 billion of wasteful spending. We will continue to find ways to save taxpayers money and get Americans back to work.”
