WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Representative David Schweikert hosted Allan Baylor, a constituent of the 6th District of Arizona, to spend a day shadowing him in Congress for the 8th Annual “Congressional Foster Youth Shadow Day” on Capitol Hill.
“It was great to host a fellow Arizonan on Capitol Hill today for the annual Foster Youth Day. I was inspired by his strength to share his story, and it was great to discuss our respective experiences working with the foster care system. I will continue to work to ensure that our nation’s child welfare system provides young people with a safe, stable, and loving home.” said Congressman David Schweikert
Background:
The Congressional Foster Youth Shadow Day is an event held each year on Capitol Hill. The event helps to bring the topic of America’s youth foster care system into the public eye. This year, over 100 foster care youth from a vast age range were invited to the nation’s capital and were paired with a representative for a day of shadowing.
Allan, a Phoenix resident, joined more than 100 other foster youth alumni from across the country who traveled to Washington to shadow Members of Congress. These youth were able to get a behind-the-scenes look at the House of Representatives and to share their experiences in the child welfare system to influence policy around foster care.
Congressman Schweikert and his wife have been through the foster family certification process and have been involved with the local Arizona foster care system for multiple years.
