WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman David Schweikert introduced two amendments during the House Ways and Means Committee markup of healthcare legislation seeking to create alternative federal payment models to finance curative drugs and to advance medication adherence.
“To address lowering prescription drug prices, we must discuss the development of innovative drugs that will help cure our brothers and sisters with chronic conditions. H.R. 3 would create fewer cures and would stifle innovation. My amendments would help to ensure we are working to future-proof our health care policies and provide patients with disruptive health care therapies, cures, and innovation.” said Congressman David Schweikert
The two amendments introduced can be found below:
- An Amendment to create a medication adherence pilot program.
- An Amendment instructing the Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary to convene a panel of technical experts to examine alternative federal payment models for disruptive health care therapies and innovation.
These amendments were not adopted. Ways and Means Committee Democrats rejected all twenty-six bipartisan amendments offered by Republicans.
