WASHINGTON D.C. – Today, Congressman David Schweikert (AZ-06) led a letter alongside Congressman Andy Biggs (AZ-05), Congresswoman Debbie Lesko (AZ-08), and Congressman Paul Gosar (AZ-04) to United States Treasury Secretary Yellen, expressing opposition to federal overreach that has targeted students, families, and educators alike. This letter comes in response to the Biden Administration’s intimidation proclamation on January 14, 2022 that threatened two federally funded programs covered under the scope of The American Rescue Plan Act of 2021.
The people of Arizona are cognizant of the effects that this Administration’s mandates have had on their personal autonomy to make decisions for themselves and their children. The government should never have the ability to subject children to a one-size-fits-all model relating to their health and education. Members of the Arizona delegation are urging for this threat to stop at once and to leave funding decisions up to state officials, as envisioned under the congressional intent of the legislation and the final rule by the Department of Treasury.
“If there has been one good thing to come out of this pandemic, it is the innovative solutions that Arizonan’s have assembled to maintain our communities. Allowing these types of threats to prevail in Washington gives rise to manipulation on behalf of our federal government” said Rep. Schweikert.
