Congressman Schweikert Joins Bipartisan Letter Supporting Parents Adopting Children in China

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman David Schweikert (AZ-06) signed a letter with over 150 Members of Congress and released the following statement supporting the need for American adoptive families to travel to the People’s Republic of China to bring their child home.

“As someone who has spent a significant amount of time trying to adopt my own daughter, I understand the importance of assisting these families in their own process. American adoptive families must have the exemption of Chinese travel bans in order to travel and meet their new child and get them into a loving home during these difficult times.”

Background:

Currently, travel restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic restrict access for adoptive parents to enter China. This letter urges an exception to the entry restriction to China for adoptive parents to be united with their child. This would help roughly 300 American families of Chinese Children who have been adopted or who are in the process of being adopted are unable to travel to China.
