WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman David Schweikert (AZ-06) joined Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson for an event at the Aeroterra Community Center, a low income senior living community that provides onsite services to assist residents working to achieve independence and self-sufficiency. The EnVision Center at AeroTerra is located in a designated Opportunity Zone in the Valley.
“I was pleased to join Secretary Ben Carson in Phoenix today for a tour of Aeroterra EnVision to see first-hand how opportunity zones, a program we developed in the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, have successfully supported economic development in the area. This policy has helped provide support for our local community and helped change the lives of many of our brothers and sisters. I look forward to continuing to work with my colleagues to ensure opportunity zone investments are as successful as the EnVision Center, and to expand upon this success to help other Arizona communities in need.”
Background:
Opportunity Zones, created by the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act in 2017, promote economic development by providing tax incentives for new projects and new businesses to invest in designated, distressed areas. To learn more about Opportunity Zones, click HERE.
