Schweikert and Hastings Wish the People of Tunisia a Happy National Day

Washington, D.C., March 20, 2015—Rep. David Schweikert (R-AZ) and Rep. Alcee Hastings (D-FL), Co-Chairmen of the Tunisia Caucus made the following statement in recognition of Tunisia National Day.

“We congratulate the people of Tunisia on celebrating their 59th year of independence. As the first country to recognize Tunisia’s independence in 1956, it is only fitting that we highlight their contributions to democracy.  As we have seen in recent days, this commitment to democracy will at times bring brutal attempts by terrorists to undermine its democratic progress. However, we know that those gathering to celebrate this independence and mourn the recent loss of life, bravely stand for an independence from tyranny. We stand shoulder to shoulder with the people of Tunisia as they pursue a strong and democratic future for their country, and wish them a happy and peaceful National Day.”
