Rep. Schweikert Congratulates Tunisian People on Success of Presidential Elections

Scottsdale, Ariz., December 22, 2014 — Rep. David Schweikert (R-AZ), Co-Chair of the Congressional Tunisian Caucus, released a statement following the release of the Tunisian Presidential Election results:

“I wish to congratulate the Tunisian people on the success of their Presidential elections and the realization of their democratic aspirations,” said Schweikert.

“Free and fair elections are the heart of any democracy. Four years after sparking the Arab Spring, Tunisia remains the only country to have successfully evolved from authoritarian rule to a country based on a freedom and fairness for all.The achievements over the last year have laid the groundwork for a prosperous and democratic Tunisia. Congratulations to President-elect Beji Caid Essebsi on his victory,” continued Schweikert.

“While many challenges lay ahead, I look forward to working with President-elect Essebsi and members of Tunisia’s new government to address those challenges and forge a closer bond between our two countries.”
