Scottsdale, Ariz., November 25, 2014—Rep. David Schweikert released a statement following the news that the Veterans Affairs Department (VA) has fired Phoenix VA Healthcare System (PVAHCS) Hospital Director, Sharon Helman. This news comes after months of scandal and investigation into delayed patient care at PVAHCS.
“Despite being long overdue, I am very supportive of the removal of former Director Helman and the leadership that led to the gross neglect of our veteran’s healthcare needs,” said Schweikert. “The toxic environment of the Phoenix VA, both for staff and patients, has let down too many of our veterans.”
“I look forward to working closely with interim director Glen Grippen during this time of transition and improvement.”

Congressman Schweikert sent letters to PVAHCS Director Sharon Helman and U.S. Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric Shinseki asking for the resignation of Director Helman and top leadership at the Phoenix VA Facility in April, 2014.
