Washington, D.C., May 30, 2014– Rep. David Schweikert (R-AZ) released a statment in response to Veterans Affairs (VA) Secretary Eric Shinseki’s resignation announcement:
"I hope this resignation is a result of the President’s dedication to finding the truth about the state of our VA system. Our Veterans and the VA need a Secretary that will take immediate action to reform the broken system," said Schweikert.
"I look forward to working with the next Secretary, whoever that may be, to ensure our veterans are receiving timely and proper care.”

In early April, a Veterans Affairs Inspector General report detailed medical care failures and administrative misconduct at numerous VA facilities. A recent interim report details a system-wide pattern of scheduling manipulation of veterans’ appointment times.
Congressman Schweikert wrote a letter to VA Secretary Eric Shinseki, following the initial reports, calling on Secretary Shinseki and the PVAHC leadership to resign. Recent responses to the ongoing investigation and the VA IG’s report can be found here.
