Rep. Schweikert Talks Democracy With Tunisian Prime Minister

Washington D.C., April 3, 2014—Rep. David Schweikert (R-AZ), co-chair of the Congressional Tunisian Caucus, released a statement today following a bipartisan meeting with Tunisian Prime Minister Mehdi Jomaa.

"I am incredibly thankful for the opportunity to meet with the Prime Minister and hear, firsthand, of the progress Tunisia is making in developing their democracy," said Schweikert. I look forward to continuing these conversations so we can be a delegation of support and collaboration for the growth of Tunisia’s democracy.

“Tunisia remains the shining star of the Arab Spring and I am thrilled to be a part of their relationship with the United States.”

Other participants in the meeting included: House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, Rep. Karen Bass, Rep. Theodore Deutch, Rep. Ileana Ros-lehtinen, Rep. Steny Hoyer, Rep. Eliot Engel, Rep. Alcee L. Hastings.

Congressman David Schweikert has co-chaired the Congressional Tunisian Caucus since the Summer of 2013. The Caucus works to inform policy makers of the democratic transition in Tunisia, while strengthening bilateral relations between the United States and Tunisia.
