REP. SCHWEIKERT’S STATEMENT ON PRESIDENT OBAMA’S BUDGET

Washington, D.C. – Congressman David Schweikert released the following statement Monday after the release of President Obama’s FY2012 budget request:

“As a country, we are devastatingly broke.  Americans want jobs and a government that lives within its means.  The President’s budget leads us down the wrong path of more reckless spending and borrowing.

“We already have a $1.4 trillion deficit and the President’s claims that his budget decreases the deficit rings hollow when that number increases to $1.6 trillion in 2012.

“President Obama’s budget contains over $330 billion in tax increases. The President should realize that raising taxes on American families and small businesses will not create jobs. Nor will it make America more competitive.

“In his State of the Union, President Obama said, ‘we have to confront the fact that our government spends more than it takes in.  That is not sustainable.’  By increasing our deficit to a record high and raising taxes by billions, President Obama’s budget fails to meet his own standards.  The only way to get our country back on the road to prosperity is to start making hard choices on spending and entitlements.

“House Republicans will continue to address these difficult issues, cut billions in wasteful Washington spending and get Americans back to work. We can’t continue to borrow and spend our way to prosperity.  It just doesn’t work.”
